Carla Humphries ushers FHM into 2011

Link to full article

WORDS AND PHOTOS BY LOU E. ALBANO
December 30, 2010

So 2011 is here, folks. Who better to usher in the brand new year than TV 5's Carla Humphries appearing on FHM's cover? Hawt, no?

Her shoot is absolutely one for the books. You all speculated correctly about it being a very extreme pictorial. Two helicopters, less than two hours to finish everything, a stellar crew cast that includes Solenn Heussaff, and of course, dear miss Carla on the cover.

Excerpts from the Behind-the Scenes Gallery

This is one of FHM's most extreme shoots ever. The 10-member crew split into two helicopters to a desert in Zambales and did our thing. Carla Humphries experienced a lot of firsts, apparently: It was her first time to ride a helicopter, and it was her first time in Zambales! Of course, you all know this is her first time in FHM.

Carla Humphries' pull is really something else. Her stellar friends wanted to be there for her, hence an uber stellar cast: Solenn Heussaff as make-up, Preview's Daryl Chang as stylist, the ever-popular Ney Guesse as our hair person, and Doc Marlon as our lensman. That's Carla's magic for you.

Graphic Manic

Carla is in the November 2008 issue of Metro Magazine in the Style / Runway for Real section.

GRAPHIC MANIC

A new look in graphic print has replaced the pop-art mania seen last season. Metro shows you how to stick to the basics and still go graphic in more reserved, subtler hues of black and white.

What a Girl Wants

Carla Humphries, the doe-eyed international model, and willowy ingénue of the local small and silver screen, may seem untouchable. The 20 year-old sets things straight with 24/7, and gets real about being a klutz, getting recognized on the street, shopping, and what she really wants for Christmas.

You keep on saying that you're a klutz, but it's hard to believe that, looking at you now.

When I was younger, in Paris , I broke my arm twice on roller skates. The third time was when I fell from a horse while modelling. When I was in school, I broke my left hand and my left knee. I fell down the stairs when I was in the swimming team. My teammate was brushing my wet hair while we were going down the stairs and she tugged too hard and I fell down.

Do you still get embarrassed whenever that happens?

Being accident-prone helps me be more kenkoy (goofy). When you fall down a lot, you don't get embarrassed anymore. You're used to it. Oftentimes in acting, you take on a character that oftentimes makes a fool of herself. It helps me that way.

You've been in a few soaps now, like ABS CBN's Bituing Walang Ningning and Abt Ur Luv , and the movie For the First Time with KC Concepcion and Richard Gutierrez, do you get recognized on the street now?

I don't expect it, but people actually know who I am. And whenever somebody does recognize me, it's flattering, but at the same time, I always hope that whenever my fans see me, I would not be doing anything embarrassing.

You seem like a girl who likes shopping. Is that true?

I like shopping, but I'm a one-time-big-time person because I'm also very kuripot (stingy) — but not with my parents' money (laughs). I like buying things for people and I don't mind spending a lot of my money on them. If it's for myself, I think about it a hundred times before buying it, but curiously I end up buying things that I don't get to use and losing out on purchases that I really like.

If you can have anything in the world, what would you put on your wish list?
  1. I want to be able to travel the world and learn about cultures.
  2. I want to be a princess.
  3. I want to learn how to speak all the languages so no matter which country I go to, I would be able to converse with the locals with ease.
  4. I want to go to Hollywood, and win an award.
  5. I want to act in a biographical movie of a famous person.
  6. I want to own a country.
Top Picks
  • Restaurant: Zumi, Cyma, People's Palace. I also like to eat in different places. I'm the type of person you can take anywhere.
  • Dish: I love sweets. I only eat the main course so I can get to the dessert.
  • Drink: Thai Iced Tea, Mint Iced Tea in Cibo
  • Getaway: the beach in Batangas, Italy
  • Artist: Michael Bubblé, Maria Mena

Carla Humphries, 20

Carla Humphries is an accidental actress. She happened to be homeschooling with the ABS-CBN program when she was almost literally plucked from class and put in front of the camera. But despite this startling beginning, Carla seems suited for the local soap opera scene. She has the mestisa looks that fans really like, she considers acting her passion, and even appreciates the melodramatic turn most Filipino shows have.

"My family always called me a drama queen," she laughs, "when I was a child I would watch myself cry in the mirror."

And now that she's grown up and gets to cry for living, she still enjoys it. "I like to live in other people's shoes and feel their pain," she says.
Not that her own life was devoid of drama. Carla's family was one of those that moved around a lot, her father always out on business.

Then one day he came home, and his kids weren't sure who he was anymore.
That's when they decided to settle down in one place for good. "We chose the Philippines because it always had good memories for us," Carla says, narrating how when she was a little girl she would spend a lot of time at her lola's place in Nasugbu where her grandmother was mayor.

In Nasugbu they would get to ride horses, go to the beach, and live out what would at times seem like a fairytale childhood.

"When I was a little girl, I told everyone I was a princess," Carla chuckles. Now she's growing up to be a real life drama queen, but this time, in every good sense of the term.

A conversation with her makes it obvious that Carla certainly has a very good head on her shoulders, having seen a chunk of the world, and understanding more of how it works than the average 20-year-old. One thing Carla knows from having moved around is that we all have to make room for our differences, which are, after all a big part of what makes us unique individuals.

As she says in her perfect French, "Vive le difference!"

Carla #13 in Maxim's 2008 Hot 100

Carla is ranked #13 in the 2008 Maxim Philippines Hot 100 List.

The 2008 edition of the Hot 100 list is available in the May 2008 issue of Maxim. They used a photo from the Palos pictorials.

The writeup: This Italian-American-Filipina beauty is no stranger to the industry. Since being "discovered" by Talent Center in '99, she's been a familiar and pretty face in print ads, TV, and internet scandals... Kidding! (Just making sure you were still paying attention). She's graced the cover of ABS-CBN's PINK magazine and we only hope and pray that she'll follow suit and grant MAXIM the same courtesy. Carla, you know where to find us!

[ Side note: Carla was ranked #82 in the 2007 Hot 100 List ]
