With almost six years in the business, Carla Humphries can finally say that her career is taking a more definite direction, or at least that is how she sees it.
“I feel like there’s a direction. At least now I feel na there is something that’s going to come of it. Hindi siya yung one time for me. It is building on a foundation that will hopefully last,” explained the 20-year-old young actress.
If there is one thing that this Filipino-French gal is thankful for, it is that her career is running on a pace the way she prefers it -- slowly but surely.
“When it’s your time, it’s your time… in God’s good time. Sa tingin ko, kung bibigyan ako ng break at hindi rin ako ready, sayang lang yung break na ibinigay sa kin,” she explained. “Feeling ko, I’m building on to my big break. Papunta doon sa stepping stone. And at least I know what to expect. Kilalang-kilala kung sino ako, mas maa-appreciate ko ang ibibigay sa akin. Unlike people who get it overnight and then they flush it down the drain kasi hindi nila alam yung value ng opportunities na binibigay sa kanila.”
When asked about her most memorable role, Carla was quick to say her appearance in a Maalaala Mo Kaya episode where she portrayed a polio victim. “I felt good about it lalo na nung sinulatan ako nung letter sender ng MMK. Nagustuhan niya talaga and she was really happy with it,” she enthused. She now appears regularly in the afternoon soap opera, Ligaw na Bulaklak, with a role which she describes as edgier.
“It’s the opposite of me. Ibang-iba,” she said. “It’s edgy kasi there are a lot of dimensions to the character. You know what your purpose in the story. How you grow as a character, how you grow with your fellow characters. I think ito yung klase ng mga roles, which will push you to do better and be more experienced.”
