Unlike other stars taking their own sweet time for nothing, Carla Humphries has never wasted a single moment in her young life. She always wants to try new things.

“I’m serious about my acting career. I don’t want to be just another pretty face,” Carla says.

That’s why since Johnny Manahan spotted Carla in a school program in 1999, she didn’t waste the chance to show her ability in an audition at Talent Center and eventually became a member of Star Circle batch 11 in 2003. Until now, the girl with a creamy complexion and slim body joins every acting workshop which enables her to hone talent even more.

“Learning is a continuous process. One should never tire of learning and practicing to get where one hopes to be,” Carla states.

Her efforts paid off. Numerous film and TV projects fell on her lap one after the other. She always gets the chance to shine.

The girl has graced several magazine covers. She also played Rita Arguelles, battered sister of Lavinia (Angelika dela Cruz) on ABS-CBN’s dramaserye Bituing Walang Ningning with Sarah Geronimo and Angelika in the lead.

The teleserye showed Carla doing what she loves most: Drama.

She still remembers how she would look at herself in front of the mirror crying every time her mom scolded her.

“I really like drama. Mahilig akong umiyak. But that doesn’t mean I had a sad childhood,” Carla clarifies.

She once treated televiewers to heart-wrenching scenes in one of the episodes of Maalaala Mo Kaya, where she played a young mom stricken with polio. The role only proved that Carla can play roles that are contrary to her glamorous image. Her mestiza looks and American accent didn’t get in the way of her role.

“Why should we be called actors if role-playing is confined only to our image? Where’s the effort there?,” Carla asks.

She also makes an effort to deliver her lines without fumbling and in straight Tagalog, with less twang.

Soon, Carla will be seen in a Star Cinema movie with Aga Muhlach, Maricel Soriano and Angelika. This time Carla’s character is more mature compared to her Abt Ur Luv role.

Although she loves acting, Carla also keeps in mind that there should be always something to fall back on. She is a sophomore student at the Center for International Education.

Although she is neck-deep in work and studies, Carla never forgets to relax. She still finds time to have fun, the way she did on her last birthday last May 20, when she turned 19. Carla and the cast of Abt Ur Luv watched a movie.

“Being with my friends is a simple joy I really treasure. The celebration doesn’t have to be grand. I like simple things. I’m mababaw,” Carla declares.

And her birthday wish?

“A soap that will display my acting talent more,” she replies.
