Carla in BWN - Episode 1.5

Lavinia and Barbara are home, and Barbara talks about her former boss having being the victim of gossip, that rumours of her drinking during performances ended her career.



Rita arrives in time to hear Barbara, and she angrily questions her mother's plans to destroy Rosamia's career by spreading rumours about her.

Barbara tells Rita to mind her own business, even as Rita looks her mother right in the eye without flinching.



In anger, Barbara shoves at Rita's head, prompting Lavinia to interject and ask their mother to leave Rosamia alone, that if Rosamia wants to be a drunk then they should just let her be.



The women stare at each other for a moment, then Barbara calms down and as she turns her back, she says she hopes that news of Rosamia's drinking is revealed at the opportune time. When that happens, they can focus on Lavinia's career, because as Rosamia's star fades, Lavinia will then be hailed as the queen of the LaCalma recording company.

Lavinia quietly says that will take a while. Barbara tells her not to worry because they will hurry things along. She tells Lavinia to go change because they have places to go and people to see.

When Lavinia leaves the room, Rita and Barbara are left staring at each other.



Rita says nothing, but it is clear that she objects to her mother's plans. When Barbara challenges her, Rita just turns away and leaves the room.
